Incumbent Christia Roberts, former city clerk Cherie White and retired Army Col. Charles Winn are running for the District 1 seat in the Aug. 18 election. Beyond district spending, the candidates have identified student literacy, teacher retention, school safety and preparing students for life after graduation as priorities.
