U.S. Rep. John Rutherford (R-Jacksonville) won re-election in U.S. House District 5 to his fifth congressional term in a row.

The incumbent faced Democrat Jay McGovern who previously ran for a U.S. House seat in 2016 and in 2020 a state House, both unsuccessfully.

Rutherford previously served as Jacksonville sheriff from 2003 to 2015.

The district, which includes some of Duval and St. Johns counties, is heavily Republican.

As of 9:12 PM ET, Tuesday, Rutherford won nearly 63% of the vote.
